Chocolate Walnut Brownies

This one of my mother's great recipes! Very easy to follow and gives divine results!

Ingredients
  • Eggs -2
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Butter - 1/2 cup
  • Unsifted flour - 1/2 cup
  • Cocoa - 1/3 cup
  • Baking powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Walnuts - 1/4 cup (chopped)
Method
  1. Beat eggs in a bowl and gradually add sugar.
  2. Blend in melted butter.
  3. Combine dry ingredients - unsifted flour, cocoa, baking powder, chopped walnuts and add to egg mixture.
  4. Stir to mix well.
  5. Pre-heat oven to 180 deg C.
  6. Lightly coat a square baking pan with butter, dust with flour to form a uniform coating.
  7. Pour mixture into square baking pan and bake in oven for about 30-35 mins or till brownie starts to pull away from the edge.
  8. Once brownies have cooled, cut into squares and serve with cream or ice cream.

  1. Hey ... A few quick queries:

    (1) Can one use cashew nuts or almonds instead of walnuts?

    (2) How long does it take to pre-heat an oven to 180 degrees C?

    (3) How many brownies will this make? Or, on a rough estimate, how many people can have this for dessert after a meal?

    (4) If one proportionally reduces or increases the portions, would the baking time still remain the same 30 to 35 minutes?

Sorry for the trouble and the stupid questions. Thanks! :-)

    1. Hi Rishad,

      Sorry for the delayed reply!

1)Brownies are usually made from walnuts but you can substitute with cashew nuts or almonds.

2)It usually takes between 15-20 mins to pre-heat an oven to 180 deg C. Though it will depend on the oven, some ovens have an indicator which shows when it has reached the desired temp.

3)Will depend on how large you cut the pieces once baked and whether you are serving with cream/ice cream. Should feed around 6-8 people assuming one serving each.

4)Baking time should remain nearly the same, though if you increase quantity by a huge amount and have two trays of brownies baking at the same time then it might take slightly longer. Also if you decrease it to less than half then I would suggest you closely monitor as time might decrease slightly.
